CAMBRENSIS DIRECTOR JOINS REACH WORKSHOP FOR IN-HOUSE LAWYERS
Cambrensis Director Professor David Slater CB will be helping present a workshop for in-house lawyers on the new EU REACH chemicals regulation on 5 October 2005.
The workshop in London is being organised by the Practical Law Company, which has links to in-house lawyers in many of the UK's leading industrial companies, in conjunction with law firm Burges Salmon LLP.
REACH is the most ambitious legislative proposal to be attempted by the European Union, and over 3,000 amendments to the 1,200 page text have been tabled in the key European Parliament committees considering it. It will require the Registration, Evaluation and Authorisation of chemical substances on their own, in preparations or in articles, and fundamental changes to the responsibilities of manufacturers, importers and downstream users.
The commonest mistake in considering the REACH proposal is to assume that it will only affect the chemicals industry. It will be of huge significance to many other sectors of the inorganics industries as well. Intense negotiations on the proposal are taking place, and the UK Presidency of the EU aims to conclude a political agreement by November 2005.
Both David Slater and William Wilson have been very active in advising companies about the REACH proposal, negotiations, business impacts and many other aspects.
