ENERGY WHITE PAPER –
NEW OPPORTUNITIES FOR RENEWABLES AND HYDROGEN
Key commitments
by the UK government in its February 2003 Energy White Paper include
–
-
Endorsement
of the Royal Commission on Environmental Pollution’s call
for 60% reductions in carbon dioxide emissions by 2050;
-
An “ambition”
to achieve 20% of energy production from renewable sources by 2020;
-
The establishment
of Fuel Cells UK – an industry network on hydrogen; and
-
A pledge
to publish a “roadmap” assessing the possible transition
to a hydrogen economy.
Cambrensis
has recently launched a Renewables and Hydrogen Contact Group
in the U.K. in order to be able to convene informal events and briefings
and to bring together key people in these areas.
