COMMUNICATING CLIMATE CHANGE WORKSHOP
What is the public supposed to do about climate change? How do we ensure that the best available, up-to-date and validated scientific information reaches the public? How do we best engage the energies of 11 to 18 year olds in tackling climate change, so that they can contribute to new solutions?
Cambrensis will be taking a completely new look at these issues in a one day workshop, inviting leading climate scientists and policy makers, and senior figures from the media, communications and education to help work out some new approaches.
What are the big issues? Thermohaline circulation slowing? Greenland and polar ice caps melting? Long term sea level rise? Methane hydrates? Melting permafrost? Total emission levels?
If 'emerging' economies like those of China and India matter, what are we doing to communicate scientific findings to them? How many of our scientific assessments are made available in Chinese, Hindi, Urdu, Russian, Spanish, Portuguese?
The next generation of 11 to 18 year olds needs to become fully equipped and fully engaged to work with this issue. We need their brains and energy. What are we doing to help that to happen, and how could we do it better?
We aim to use this workshop to hammer out some practical approaches that will help companies, governments, schools, decision makers to contribute more effectively on this issue, and we aim to use new ways to communicate the workshop's findings. Big claims? Come and help!
We welcome the interest and participation in this workshop, ranging from Guildford Borough Council to students of Weobley High School, and from Centrica to the Chinese Embassy.
Attendance at this workshop will cost £50 plus £8.75 VAT to include lunch at the Middle Temple, or be by invitation. For further information please contact us |
