TWO NEW CAMBRENSIS ASSOCIATES
Cambrensis is delighted to announce the appointment of two new Associates, who will work with us on particular projects requiring their expertise.
Professor Phil BOWEN MIMechE, BSc, PhD is Chair of Energy Systems at Cardiff University School of Engineering, and also Head of Marketing and Publicity at that School. After achieving First Class Joint Honours in Pure & Applied Maths in his BSc at Aberystwyth, Phil’s PhD at the University of Wales was in Numerical Modelling of Complex Fluids. He has a wide range of experience in Energy and Environmental Research in academia, consultancy and industry. He undertook Risk and Hazard research and consultancy with Shell in the 1990s, and then R&D in Energy and Hazardous Systems at Cardiff. Since 2000 his high profile work has included helping to establish the national multidisciplinary Welsh Energy Research Centre, WERC
John COMBER, Barrister, was an Exhibitioner at both King’s College and Gray’s Inn. He has over 30 years experience within government in domestic and European Community legislation, and has specialised in environmental law for nearly 20 years. He was head of the Environment (National) and Water Divisions at the Solicitor’s Office of the DoE/DETR/Defra from 1986 to 2003. He has been involved in 21 major Government Bills, with lead responsibility for the legal team on 14 of them. He has enormous experience in the preparation and implementation of domestic legislation and in the negotiation and implementation of European Community legislation. Phil Bowen and John Comber join –
Professor David SLATER, Director, formerly Chief Inspector, HM Inspectorate of Pollution and Director, Environmental Protection, Environment Agency
Recent work includes ground breaking HAZOP risk assessments of occupational risk for the Netherlands Government, risk assessment reporting on airport safety systems and air traffic control at several leading European airports, and has recently been appointed Independent Chairman of the UK Nirex CLG, working on issues of radioactive waste disposal.
William WILSON, Director, LLM Barrister, environmental lawyer for 16 years, nearly 10 in government
Recent work has included in depth participation in negotiations on the EU REACH Chemicals Regulation for several major clients.
Dr John MURLIS, Associate, Visiting Professor in Environment Policy, University College London and formerly Chief Scientist with the Environment Agency for England and Wales
John’s work for Cambrensis in 2005 included leading our work on preparing implementation guides for major international air quality protocols.
Ray PURDY, Associate, Deputy Director, Centre for Law and the Environment, Faculty of Laws, University College, London
Ray’s work for Cambrensis in 2005 included making a major contribution to an EU Waste Law Review covering Refuse Derived Fuels and legislation in 6 EU Member State jurisdictions.
