David Slater, Managing Director

David Slater led HM Inspectorate of Pollution before and during its
critical merger into the Environment Agency for England and Wales, subsequently
becoming Director of Environmental Protection for the new Agency. As
well as being a Director of Cambrensis, he is also Principal Partner
of Acona, a leading oil and gas risk management consultancy. David Slater
has recently been appointed Royal Academy of Engineering Professor of
Engineering Design for Sustainable Development at the University of
Manchester Institute of Science and Technology ‘UMIST’.
William
Wilson, Director
Barrister, LLM
William Wilson works on environmental and energy law for Burges Salmon,
solicitors in Bristol, England as well as being a Director of Cambrensis.
He spent nine years working on UK and EU environmental laws at the Solicitor’s
Office of the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions,
and his work has included legal management of the Environment Act 1995,
helping to negotiate the Water Framework Directive, implementation of
the Landfill Directive, advice to Government on radioactive substances
and nuclear law, drafting subordinate air quality legislation and waste.
In 1996-97 he spent a year in the USA on a Harkness Fellowship awarded
by the Commonwealth Fund for New York, and is the author of ‘Making
Environmental Laws Work – Law and Policy in the UK and USA’
(Hart, London and Portland OR, 1999).

John Murlis, Associate
PhD, DIC, FRES, FRMS
John Murlis is a former Chief Scientist for the Environment Agency of
England and Wales. He has been Director of Research at the Jackson Research
Institute, and Director of the Institute for Environmental Policy at
University College London, where he is now also Visiting Professor in
Environment Policy.
