ABOUT US

European Institutions

·         Over 200 core European Union environmental directives make up the basis of the Union’s laws in this field, and are estimated to be the basis for at least 80% of UK national measures on the environment

·         The European Parliament plays an increasingly important role in EU lawmaking since the Treaty of Amsterdam gave it further powers and an influential ‘co-decision’ role on environmental directives with the Council of Ministers.

·         The European Commission continues to enjoy exclusive powers to propose EU legislation and significant influence on its shape and content.

Key personnel at Cambrensis have extensive direct experience of working with European Union institutions. They have negotiated Directives, worked at Council of Ministers meetings, dealt with the European Commission, and helped to set up IMPEL, the enforcement network for European Union environmental laws.
